Crystal Palace defender Pape Souare made his long-awaited return to action on Tuesday afternoon.

Souare played 45 minutes of an Under-23 match against Nottingham Forest – almost a year after he suffered serious injuries in a car crash on the M4.

Forest won the game 2-1 courtesy of an injury-time goal. Palace’s goal was scored by Freddie Ladapo, who also hit the post.

Soare admitted last year that he was not sure if he would play again.

He told the BBC: “I don’t know about my injury. I don’t know if I can get back or not.

“I just put everything in the hands of God and we will see.”
