Liverpool star a doubt for Crystal Palace game

Emre Can is a doubt for Liverpool for their visit to Crystal Palace.

The Germany international was called up by his country for friendlies against Spain and Brazil but was released early because of a back problem sustained early in the win over Watford on March 17.

Can is still being assessed by Liverpool but did not take part in the first training session of the full squad following all players’ return from national team duty.

However, left-back Andrew Robertson, who was forced off with a suspected dead leg in Scotland’s friendly with Hungary, was pictured training with the squad on Thursday.

Former Charlton defender Joe Gomez will miss the trip to Selhurst Park due to an ankle injury he sustained early in England’s friendly win over Holland last Friday.

Meanwhile, Roy Hodgson has indicated that Wilfried Zaha might not start for Palace.

Zaha recently returned after a knee injury, playing almost the whole game in the win against Huddersfield – his second match since returning to action.

Speaking at a press conference on Thursday afternoon, Palace boss Hodgson said he would assess Zaha’s fitness before deciding his line-up.

“He has not been doing any training with us to any great extent. We are nursing the knee problem that he has,” Hodgson explained.

“He is one that we will have a look at tomorrow and we hope that the knee will be okay.

“We have had to be very cautious with him after the Huddersfield game because he came back from injury a lot earlier than perhaps he should have done.”

And Zaha is not the only injury doubt ahead of the game.

“We still have doubts on James Tomkins and Alex Sorloth. We will check them but they are very much doubts, as is Connor Wickham,” Hodgson said.
