Paper round-up: Palace reportedly pushed for City investigation

Crystal Palace were among clubs that wanted the Premier League to investigate alleged breaches of Financial Fair Play rules by Manchester City, according to the Daily Mail.

The newspaper say the owners of Palace and Liverpool wanted the English governing body to join UEFA in probing allegations of financial cheating by City.

On Thursday UEFA announced that they are investigating after the publication of leaked documents that point to possible breaches of Financial Fair Play regulations.

And on Friday the Premier League confirmed they are also investigating and had asked City for information.

The Premier League statement said: “The Premier League has previously contacted Manchester City to request information regarding recent allegations and is in ongoing dialogue with the club.

“The League has detailed financial regulations and strong rules in the areas of Academy player recruitment and third-party ownership.

“We are investigating these matters and will allow Manchester City every opportunity to explain the context and detail surrounding them.”

City maintain they are not guilty of any wrongdoing and say the leaked documents, published by German publication Der Spiegel, have been hacked and taken out of context.

Meanwhile, The Times reports that Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson believes Eagles right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka will commit his international future to England despite reports he could instead play for DR Congo.

The Daily Telegraph reports that Arsenal have moved a step closer to appointing Monchi as their new technical director after he left Roma.

The Spaniard previously worked with Gunners boss Unai Emery at Sevilla, where he was director of football for 17 years.

Credited with the signings of the likes of Ivan Rakitic and Dani Alves, Monchi is now tipped to join Emery at the Emirates Stadium.

The Guardian, on the other hand, suggest he is undecided over whether to join Arsenal and is considering his options.

Tottenham have denied reports their new ground will be called the Nike Stadium, the Mail reports.

And in an interview with The Guardian, Spurs star Son Heung-min, says he intends to stay unmarried until he retires as a player.
