Tuchel hits back at speculation about his future

Thomas Tuchel has insisted he won’t walk away from Chelsea.

With the club up for sale and its future unclear, head coach Tuchel recently remarked that Chelsea were managing the crisis “day-by-day” .

That sparked some speculation that the German might not see out the season at Stamford Bridge.

However, speaking at his post-match press conference after the win over Newcastle, Tuchel clarified his comments.

He said: “There’s no doubt I’ll stay until the end of the season. Absolutely. We just have to wait and go day-by-day because everything can change.

“As you know the situation is clear – the club’s for sale, and hopefully it will go through to sort things out and give us a perspective. But it’s pure speculation and I have no further information than you already have.

“That’s what I meant with day-by-day, which is anyway a good way to live your life, and now we are forced to do it because there are some circumstances we cannot influence.”

Kai Havertz’s brilliant last-minute goal gave Chelsea a 1-0 win, cementing their position in third.

He brilliantly controlled Jorginho’s chip over the Newcastle defence before firing home.

“The Kai Havertz goal was exceptional,” Tuchel said.

“Of course we were a bit lucky today and we had a hard time on the pitch because Newcastle were physical and made it difficult to create chances.

“But it was so important not to concede and to have the chance to have maybe one quality run, quality pass and quality finish to win it.”
