Three key things we learned from Chelsea boss Potter’s pre-Southampton press conference

Graham Potter spoke about a number of issues on the eve of his side’s home match against Southampton. Here are three key things we learned at the Chelsea head coach’s pre-match press conference on Friday.

Sterling and Chilwell look likely to be in the squad

“It’s positive. We train later this afternoon and providing they come through that OK then there’s a good chance they will be in the squad and in contention. The decision will be made depending on how he (Chilwell) comes through later.

“We will make the call tonight or tomorrow with regards to the extent of how much he can play. But we’re pleased with the steps he’s taking and it was only a knock he got the other night.”

Potter wants Mount’s future resolved sooner rather than later

“It’s always complicated with negotiations. It’s best that I leave it between Mason and the club – that’s the best way for that to be dealt with.

“As far as I’m concerned, he has been fantastic to work with, an important player for us, and of course I hope it gets resolved quickly.”

And the door is still open for Aubameyang

“Pierre is in our squad and remains an important player for us. He’s worked hard and he knows the situation at the moment. Nothing is set in stone.

“His attitude has been really, really good and we’ll make an assessment as we go forward.”
