Jorginho will be among the Chelsea players rested for Thursday’s Europa League game against BATE Borisov at Stamford Bridge.
The Italy international has been involved heavily for both club and country in recent weeks and Blues boss Maurizio Sarri believes he is in need of a break.
Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday afternoon, Sarri explained: “I think he needs to rest now because he played for 90 minutes in the two matches for the national team and then he played for 90 minutes in our last match, so it’s time to rest for him.”
Eden Hazard will also sit out Thursday’s game and could miss Sunday’s Premier League trip to Burnley too.
Hazard is struggling with a back injury he suffered during Saturday’s 2-2 draw with Manchester United.
“Tomorrow he is out for sure,” said Sarri. “He has a back problem and we are trying to solve the problem for Sunday. I think it’s not very easy.”
Sarri added: “I want to think very well (about his team selection), because the problem is not this match, the problem will be playing on Sunday after 65 hours.
“We have to be careful I think, and so maybe five or six (changes).”
