Bayer Leverkusen’s highly-rated young centre-back Edmond Tapsoba has spoken out on transfer speculation linking him with a move to Chelsea this summer.
The 22-year-old has been touted as a possible signing by the Blues but has insisted he is keeping his feet firmly on the ground.
“With Chelsea, for now, there is nothing concrete, nothing official,” he told Afrique Sport.
“All I can say is that I’m going to start my season on the Bayer Leverkusen side. We cross our fingers so that God can guide us in the right path.”
The Burkina Faso international is highly sought after following an impressive debut campaign in Germany, with Arsenal also believed to be extremely interested in signing him.
Chelsea are understood to be looking for a young centre-back, with two of the Champions League-winning back three – César Azpilicueta and Thiago Silva – approaching the end of their careers.
Silva recently signed a new one-year deal but the veteran is clearly not a long-term option for the club.
Leverkusen are said to value Tapsoba around £60 million, but an existing relationship with Chelsea after the signing of Kai Havertz last season may help bring the price to a more reasonable amount.
