Hazard: Chelsea refused to sell me

Eden Hazard says Chelsea refused to let him go during the summer transfer window and he happily accepted that he would stay at Stamford Bridge.

Hazard continues to be linked with Real Madrid – but the Blues star has told French television he will not follow his former Chelsea team-mate Thibaut Courtois’ lead and try to force a move.

The 27-year-old, who has spoken of his dilemma over his future and his dream of joining Real, has been in sparkling form for Maurizio Sarri’s unbeaten side this season.

And Hazard says the Blues refused to sell him after the World Cup, when he was tipped to move to Spain.

But, unlike Belgium team-mate Courtois, who agitated for a transfer to Real, Hazard insists he will not push for a move.

“Chelsea were clear to me’ I could not leave. I accepted it,” Hazard told Telefoot.

“Leaving or staying, I knew I was going to be happy. I do not regret at all.

“I will never clash with a club. If I leave Chelsea, I will leave on good terms.”

Courtois had one year remaining on his Chelsea contract when he forced the Blues’ hand and was allowed to join Real.

Hazard, meanwhile, said last week that he did not expect to leave Chelsea in January.

He joined Chelsea from Lille in June 2012 and his current contract, signed in February 2015, runs until June 2020.
