Boss Tuchel hints at new roles for Chelsea duo

Thomas Tuchel said he was keen to see Callum Hudson-Odoi play on the left against Arsenal.

Hudson-Odoi has previously played on the right, where Christian Pulisic was deployed against the Gunners.

With Marcos Alonso unavailable, Blues boss Tuchel took the opportunity to switch Hudson-Odoi to the left.

With Cesar Azpilicueta and Reece James having been given extended breaks because of their involvement in Euro 2020, Pulisic was asked to play at right wing-back.

And Tuchel indicated after the 1-0 win that both Hudson-Odoi and Pulisic could feature in those roles again in the future.

Speaking at his post-match press conference, Tuchel explained: “Marcos was not able to play so we put Callum on the left side – it was something I wanted to see for a long time. Callum can maybe be more dangerous from this position.

“We have Azpi and Reecey for this position (on the right). Both of them are not here. Azpi started two days ago and Reecey did not even start yet.

“So we lack solutions. And was a possibility to give him (Pulisic) some minutes.”

Pulisic, who previously worked under Tuchel at Borussia Dortmund, played just over an hour of Sunday’s game.

Asked if the American could be used as a wing-back again in the future, Tuchel said: “Maybe. He played this with me in Dortmund.”
