Lampard explains how Kante will fit in with the Jorginho-Kovacic combination working so well

Frank Lampard says welcomes the “nice problem” N’Golo Kante’s return to fitness will bring for him.

Kante is back in training and ready to return for Chelsea, who face Ajax in the Champions League on Tuesday.

But midfielders Jorginho and Mateo Kovacic have been outstanding in the Frenchman’s absence and it remains to be seen how the more defensively-minded Kante will be reintegrated into the side.

Speaking at a press conference, Lampard said: “In some games we’ve had to break teams down this season and we need to be able to move. We can’t be too rigid in our positions or too predictable.

“So I think the freedom to interchange – they all can do all roles as such. I’m very happy for them to be quite fluent in how they play.

“I also want them to be positive in their play and play forward passes when they’re on and go by people if that’s one of your attributes – to travel with the ball at pace.

“In terms of N’Golo, of course he’s huge for us – he’s one of the best midfield players in the world and has been for a few seasons, so I won’t complain about the nice problem I have with him fit.

“I want competition. We’re playing every three or four days at the minute so I’m going to need all of them.”
