Chelsea said to be eyeing defensive duo

Chelsea are still interested in bringing central defender Jules Kounde to the club, according to reports.

The 23-year-old was heavily linked with a move to Stamford Bridge from Sevilla in the summer transfer window but a deal could not be agreed between the two sides.

Sevilla wanted a payment of 60 million euros, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano, whereas Chelsea were only willing to pay around 50 million euros.

But speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano said the Blues have retained their interest in the defender and would like to bring him to the club either in January or this summer.

“From what I’m told, Chelsea are still working for Jules Kounde. They have the name of Jules Kounde on their list,” Romano said.

“He is still considered one of the biggest options. They are still thinking of Kounde as a player with perfect skills to join Chelsea.

“Chelsea really loves this player. In the last two years, Chelsea have sent their scouts many times to watch Kounde.

“Last summer it was more than close. The negotiation started with a swap deal including Kurt Zouma but in the end Sevilla were not happy with the value and decided to focus only on Jules Kounde with no players included.”

Romano also claims Chelsea are tracking Bayern Munich defender Niklas Sule as another possible target, with the club facing the possibility of losing Antonio Rudiger, Andreas Christensen and Cesar Azpilicueta on free transfers due to the expiration of their contracts.
