England v Croatia player ratings: How the London contingent fared

England began their European Championship campaign by beating Croatia 1-0 at Wembley. Here’s how we rated each of the London contingent.

Declan Rice: 7

The West Ham man did the job he was there for in midfield. He was solid and protected the back four well, picking up loose balls deep in the England half when necessary.

Mason Mount: 7

Went close with a second-half free-kick and always looked lively on the ball. Got through a fair amount of work off the ball as well.

Harry Kane: 7

The Tottenham striker will be disappointed not to have scored – he was denied a goal by a last-ditch far-post challenge. But his hold-up and link-up play were as spot-on as ever.

Mateo Kovacic: 6

A frustrating afternoon for Kovacic, as Croatia’s midfield struggled to stem the forward runs of his Chelsea team-mate Mount and were unable to get the better of the hardworking Rice and Kalvin Phillps.
