Former Chelsea man scores for Liverpool as they beat Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace lost 2-0 to Liverpool in a pre-season friendly in Hong Kong.

Dominic Solanke, signed from Chelsea this summer, opened the scoring just after the hour mark and Divock Origi netted with 10 minutes remaining.

The Premier League Asia Trophy game was new Eagles boss Frank de Boer’s first chance to see his full-strength side in action.

And they would have gone ahead in the first half had keeper Simon Mignolet not denied Keshi Anderson after he had been put through on goal by Andros Townsend.

Solanke fired Liverpool into the lead from outside the penalty area following a smart flick by Origi, who was then on hand to score from close range after Philippe Coutinho’s shot had been blocked.

Meanwhile, Arsenal beat Bayern Munich on penalties after their friendly in Shanghai ended in a 1-1 draw.

Gunners defender Per Mertesacker missed the International Champions Cup match after being withdrawn from the side shortly beforehand because of illness.

Alex Iwobi equalised in injury time for the Gunners after Robert Lewandowski had put the German side ahead with an early penalty after Ainsley Maitland-Niles was adjudged to have fouled Juan Bernat.
