Another injury blow for Chelsea but news on Abraham looks ‘positive’

Andreas Christensen has joined Chelsea’s injured list but the news on Tammy Abraham is “relatively positive” according to boss Frank Lampard.

Speaking at a press conference on Monday afternoon, Lampard said a “small issue” meant Christensen would be unavailable for Tuesday’s FA Cup tie against Liverpool.

Lampard is already without the likes of Abraham, N’Golo Kante, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Christian Pulisic.

Striker Abraham has seen a specialist in Barcelona and Chelsea are still not sure when he will be able to return from an ankle injury.

But Lampard indicated that he is hopeful that both Abraham and Pulisic will be back soon.

“He (Abraham) went to Barcelona to get another set of eyes on it. It came back relatively positive,” Lampard said.

“Unfortunately he’s a bit unwell at the moment, so he’s off for a couple of days with a bit of a bug. So there’s no update.”

Abraham has endured a frustrating time, while Pulisic has been out since New Year’s Day because of a groin problem.

Lampard said: “It’s certainly frustrating for them. Christian has had a big phase out now and is desperate to get back.

“When I’m not giving an answer (on when they might return) it’s not like I’m looking into the distance and can’t see answer.

“I’m hoping they might be fit over the next week or two, I just can’t say that with clarity because they’ve both had their issues.”
