Arsenal reportedly looking to snap up Leicester star

Arsenal would like to sign Leicester City midfielder Youri Tielemans, according to a report from Goal.

The Gunners continue to pursue Juventus midfielder Arthur Melo on a loan deal until the end of the season, but Tielemans is also said to be a target for the club.

Mikel Arteta’s side have limited midfield options at the moment with Mohamed Elneny and Thomas Partey both away at the African Cup of Nations and with Ainsley Maitland-Niles having joined Roma on loan.

And the report suggests that Arsenal have held discussions with Tielemans’ agent over a potential move to north London.

The Belgian has just 18 months left on his contract at the King Power Stadium, with clubs from across Europe said to be interested in signing the midfielder.

Discussions have taken place with his representatives at London Colney to explore whether a deal could be possible, but the report adds that a deal is unlikely this month because the Foxes would like to keep hold of him until the end of the season and try to persuade him to sign a new contract.

But if they are unable to extend his stay in the midlands, a summer move “looks likely” and Arsenal are said to believe that they are an appealing option for the midfielder – particularly if Arteta’s side can secure a top four finish.
