Chelsea made huge offer to Rudiger – and Tuchel was ‘confident’ he would sign

Antonio Rudiger turned down an offer of £200,000 a week to stay at Chelsea, according to the Sunday Telegraph.

Rudiger’s contract expires at the end of the season and he is expected to leave Stamford Bridge.

The Sunday Telegraph say he was made a lucrative offer to stay but decided to turn it down.

The newspaper reports that the club felt the terms would be good enough to persuade Rudiger to re-sign.

Meanwhile, the Observer reports that the German defender is moving on and that Real Madrid are favourites to sign him.

It comes despite Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel recently declaring that he remained confident Rudiger would eventually sign a new deal and stay with the Blues.

Speaking at a press conference after reports Rudiger’s representatives were in talks with Barcelona, Tuchel said: “Still he’s our player and I still think we have a good chance that he stays our player once things are solved for us.

“But the situation is the situation. At the moment our hands are tied. We cannot speak to him, we cannot offer him (a contract) and we cannot negotiate with him and his agent.

“So, fair enough – if it’s true – that he listens to other offers. That’s the way things go. But I’m still confident.”
