Jenas hails Mount after Chelsea’s derby win

Jermaine Jenas says Mason Mount has a complete game that means he is “always the first name on boss Frank Lampard’s teamsheet”.

Mount scored the only goal in the west London derby win over ten-man Fulham at Craven Cottage on Saturday to earn a vital three points and end a run of three successive away defeats in the Premier League.

Mount has started 16 of Chelsea’s 18 league matches this season and former Tottenham and QPR midfielder Jenas said the 22-year-old consistency has stood out.

“Frank can rely on him,” Jenas said on Match Of The Day. “He scores goals and he has the creativity. When you look at his game there is not much missing.”

The win took Chelsea, who had lost four of this past six league fixtures and face second-placed Leicester City on Tuesday, up to seventh in the table.

“This was a pressurised game for Frank and the team,” Jenas added. “And Mount really epitomised that feeling and took the game to Fulham, His technique is impeccable.

“He had that bite in midfield and he was there to defend his team-mates when he wasn’t happy with certain challenges going on and rightly so.

“It was a really accomplished display from him.”
