Redknapp: Lampard set to sign new keeper

Jamie Redknapp has no doubt his cousin Frank Lampard will look to sign a keeper to replace Kepa Arrizabalaga at Chelsea this summer.

Lampard left out Kepa against Wolves at Stamford Bridge, where the 2-0 win sealed the Blues’ Champions League place.

Speaking on Sky Sports, former England midfielder Redknapp said he was “not surprised” Willy Caballero was preferred in goal to Kepa – and predicted a longer-term replacement would be brought in.

“Kepa has conceded a lot of goals and doesn’t make enough saves,” Redknapp added. “Caballero probably deserves the opportunity. He has never really let Frank down. It is a huge game for the club.

“I am sure Frank will be looking in pre-season trying to bring a goalkeeper in.

“You don’t do that to your number one keeper. If you are sure about your keeper he starts every game, especially a game of this magnitude.

“He feels that he is not the right man, not in form and doesn’t make enough big saves.

“If there is someone available in the summer I have no doubt Frank will be trying to bring him in. Kepa hasn’t been a success. There might be difficult times ahead.”

Lampard refused to discuss Kepa’s future after the game.

Speaking at his post-match press conference, he said: “I don’t want to jump forward beyond the Arsenal game next week. It would be wrong.

“The squad are really strong at the minute in terms of the unit and how they are on and off the pitch.

“I want that to stay for one more week domestically. Then we have the Bayern Munich game. Looking forward to next season will happen after that.”
