Mauro Icardi could yet end up at Chelsea – but it would take a huge transfer fee to take him to Stamford Bridge.
Inter Milan have reportedly rejected a bid from Paris St-Germain for the striker, who has been linked with Chelsea many times before.
The Sun on Sunday suggest PSG failing to agree a deal for Icardi could increase the chances of him moving to the Bridge.
However, the Blues would have to shell out a huge amount of money in order for a deal to be done.
PSG are said to have offered £44.7m up front plus a further £8.9m in add-ons, but the proposal was apparently turned down.
That shows the scale of how much it would cost to take Icardi to west London when the transfer window reopens.
Blues boss Frank Lampard is expected to sign at least one striker, having been unable to do so during the January window.
It remains to be seen whether a deal can be agreed for Icardi, who is believed to be keen to play in the Premier League.
Meanwhile, Kepa Arrizabalaga continues to be linked with a move away from Chelsea.
The Sunday Express reports that Kepa could join Valencia with Cameroon international Andre Onana joining Chelsea from Ajax as his replacement.
