West Ham owner ‘would like to think’ Moyes will stay

West Ham co-owner David Gold has praised David Moyes but offered no assurances over the manager’s future.

Gold said he would “like to think” Moyes would remain in charge at the London Stadium, but also said he was one of a number of bosses in contention to lead the Hammers next season.

Asked whether Moyes would stay in charge, Gold said: “Who knows? Who knows? I’ve enjoyed David Moyes, I’ve enjoyed his company, I’ve enjoyed working with him. He’s a proper professional – his record speaks for itself.

“As we speak, David Moyes is on the list of managers and we’ll be selecting one in due course. I’d like to think it was David Moyes, I really hope so.”

Former Manchester United and Everton manager Moyes took over from Slaven Bilic in November and led West Ham to safety in the Premier League.

His contract has now expired, Moyes has said, but the Scot indicated after Sunday’s 3-1 season-closing win over Everton that he hoped to stay on.
