Newcastle watch Rangers star in action – West Ham also interested

Newcastle reportedly scouted Ryan Manning in QPR’s defeat at Leeds on Saturday.

Football Insider say Magpies scouts were at Elland Road to watch Manning, who was recently called up to the Republic of Ireland squad.

London Football News understands West Ham and Watford have also been alerted to Manning’s possible availability, with the player in the final year of his contract at Loftus Road.

West London Sport have reported that QPR have an option to extend that contract for a further year and are in talks over a long-term deal for Manning.

Manning was signed by QPR from his hometown club Galway United in 2015 after being pursued by a number of English clubs.

Having made the breakthrough to first-team level under Ian Holloway, he was out of favour under Steve McClaren and spent the first half of last season on loan at Rotherham United.

Despite being recalled last January, he continued to be overlooked. But following the sacking of McClaren he was converted from a midfielder to left-back and produced some impressive performances there towards the end of last season.

He has continued to impress at left-back this term, attracting the interest of Premier League clubs as a result.

Football Insider previously claimed that Southampton are confident of a “cut-price deal” to sign Manning and the following day claimed that Newcastle are also in the hunt to sign him.
