West Ham hopeful duo will return against Spurs

West Ham are hopeful striker Diafra Sakho and defender James Collins will fit in time to face Tottenham after the international break.

Sakho has yet to play for the Hammers this season because of a long-standing back problem, but has been training with the first-team squad for the past two weeks.

A medical bulletin issue by West Ham on the club’s official website said Sakho’s return would either be against Spurs on 19 November, or Manchester United on 27 November.

Collins, who suffered a calf injury against Stoke last weekend and had to withdraw from the Wales squad as a result, is also winning his fitness battle.

Winston Reid, who was injured towards the end of the Everton game last month, is still working on his rehabilitation having had to pull out of the New Zealand squad.

Striker Andy Carroll, midfielder Gokhan Tore, and defenders Sam Byram and Reece Oxford remain sidelined.

Tore is described as being “close to returning”, while Byram has started running on the pitch this week following a hamstring injury.

Oxford suffered an ankle sprain in training before the Everton game and is currently using crutches.
