Bilic ‘not panicking’ after another Hammers defeat

Slaven Bilic insisted West Ham can turn their fortunes around following a dismal start to the season.

The Hammers’ 3-0 defeat at Newcastle left them bottom of the Premier League table, having lost all three of their opening matches.

They have conceded a total of 10 goals in the process and again looked vulnerable at the back at St James’ Park.

Speaking at his post-match press conference, manager Bilic said he was “worried but not panicking.”

He added: “After the game at Southampton, we had lost and we had zero points, but I was still very positive about the way we played and reacted after we had 10 men.

“But this is different and it is worrying. Every club has their ups and downs and only us can take ourselves out of this situation. It’s still very early.

“It’s my job to be confident and to believe in the good and bad times.”

Bilic is hoping to add to his squad ahead of Thursday’s deadline.

“We’ve done well in the transfer window and we’re looking for one more player,” he said. “Sometimes one player can change a lot.

“This was a very difficult afternoon. They were better in every aspect of the game and simply had more power and determination.”
