West Ham boss eases Cresswell injury fears

West Ham boss Slaven Bilic does not believe Aaron Cresswell’s latest injury is serious.

Cresswell, who missed the first two months of the season with a knee problem, went off during the first half of the EFL Cup quarter-final defeat against Manchester United.

The 4-1 loss at Old Trafford, where the Hammers drew 1-1 in the league on Sunday, was a major disappointment.

But fears Cresswell has picked up another significant injury appear to have been allayed.

“Cresswell’s injury doesn’t look that bad,” Bilic said at his post-match press conference.

“His groin felt very tight and hopefully it’s just fatigue from Sunday.”

Bilic added that he is hopeful an injury suffered by Michail Antonio, who went off in the second half, is not serious either, but both players will be assessed.

Bilic admitted his team were punished for their defensive lapses.

Ashley Fletcher’s goal – his first for West Ham – hauled them level after United had gone ahead in the second minute.

But the hosts regained the lead after the Hammers switched off again at the start of the second half, and then there was no way back.

“We recovered and looked good, but you can’t do the same – and we did. They totally deserved it after that,” Bilic said.
