West Ham forward Robert Snodgrass said he turned down other clubs to sign on loan for Aston Villa because of their “history and tradition”.
Sunderland were also interested in signing the Scotland international, who only joined the Hammers in January but quickly fell out of favour and has yet to feature for them this season.
Brighton, Burnley and Villa’s rivals Birmingham have also been linked with him at various points during the summer.
Speaking to Villa’s official website, Snodgrass said: “I have had offers from other clubs but it was an easy decision to come here.
“You see the name Aston Villa, with all its history, tradition [and] fanbase, and it’s a place you want to come to.
“Seeing it in the Championship doesn’t look right. I want to be part of that journey back up to the Premier League. I am raring to go.”
Snodgrass links up again with Steve Bruce, who managed him during a successful spell together at Hull City.
He scored seven goals in 20 appearances for the Tigers in the opening half of the 2016/17 campaign, leading to a move to West Ham.
But he failed to score in 15 appearances and has slipped down the pecking order at the London Stadium.
