West Ham defender Winston Reid has been ruled out of the game at the Etihad Stadium.
Reid picked up a hamstring injury against Everton and has not recovered in time. It means Pablo Zabaleta captains the Hammers against his former team.
Adrian is in goal because on-loan City keeper Joe Hart in ineligible to play against his parent club.
Hammers boss David Moyes has dropped Marko Arnautovic and Andre Ayew to the bench.
Meanwhile, Leroy Sane has been passed fit after illness and starts for City, as does David Silva. Vincent Kompany is rested.
