West Ham ‘said no to Loftus-Cheek’

West Ham are said to have turned down the chance to sign Ruben Loftus-Cheek ahead of this week’s transfer deadline.

The Chelsea midfielder’s long-term future remains unclear – and Talksport has reported that the Blues offered him to the Hammers in the final stages of the transfer window.

West Ham were looking for a midfielder but opted to bring in Alex Kral from Spartak Moscow on a season-long loan.

According to broadcaster Alex Crook: “Ruben Loftus-Cheek, who of course was out on loan at Fulham last season, was offered to West Ham.

“They said no. They were offered the chance to sign Ruben Loftus-Cheek, he stays at Chelsea.”

Loftus-Cheek has been desperate to establish himself as a first-team regular at Chelsea and seemed to be finally doing so before suffering a ruptured Achilles tendon.

His comeback has not been an easy one and last season he had a difficult loan spell at Fulham, who were relegated from the Premier League.

His first-team chances at Chelsea look bleak as boss Thomas Tuchel has a wealth of midfield options at his disposal – especially after the signing of Saul Niguez from Atletico Madrid.

Loftus-Cheek was therefore expected to move elsewhere this summer, but no move materialised.
