Paper round-up: Carroll reportedly in line for new West Ham contract

The Sun say Andy Carroll could yet be offered a new contract by West Ham.

The striker, whose current deal expires this summer, has been plagued by injuries during his Hammers career and is currently recovering from an ankle problem.

But The Sun reckon there is still a chance he could be made an offer to stay

A club insider is quoted as saying: “There’s an argument for it. Any deal would be structured completely differently to the current one.

“A minimal basic salary plus heavily incentivised payments in return for starts and goals and things like that. That would put the onus on him to be fit and ready.

“There is sympathy for the player. The club has grown tired of all the setbacks but if he can stay fit and it costs West Ham next to nothing, there’s not much to lose.

“There have been early discussions about it at the club. But if I were Andy or advising him, I’d probably be thinking it would be wise to stay at West Ham.”

Meanwhile, Wilfried Zaha is ready to return to Manchester United rather than join one of the London clubs keen on him, according to the Daily Telegraph.

Zaha, who was unable to establish himself during a previous spell at United, has reportedly told Crystal Palace that he wants to leave this summer.

Tottenham and Chelsea have both been linked with the Ivory Coast international, who wants to play in the Champions League.

The Telegraph say Palace want £100m for Zaha and that he is ready to return to United if they make an offer.

The newspaper also say Arsenal have expressed an interest along with Borussia Dortmund but that neither club is likely to pay anywhere near the asking price – Arsenal apparently see Bournemouth’s Ryan Fraser as a cheaper potential option.

The Daily Mail, on the other hand, reports that Palace want £80m for Zaha and that this would entitle United up to £15m from any sale of the winger because of a clause in the deal when they sold him back to the Eagles.

The Daily Mirror reports that Bayer Leverkusen forward Julian Brandt could snub a potential move to Tottenham and stay in Germany.

Arsenal expect Henrikh Mkhitaryan to miss the Europa League final in Baku because of safety fears, The Times reports.

Arsenal want Gremio defender Walter Kannemann, the Daily Star reckon.

And The Sun say Chelsea want Marseille defender Boubacar Kamara.
