Clubs eyeing West Ham star after contract talks stall

Declan Rice’s contract talks with West Ham appear to have stalled and there is genuine interest in him among top Premier League clubs, according to the Daily Mail.

Rice, 19, reportedly earns just £3,000 a week and is under contract at the London Stadium until 2020.

West Ham are apparently willing to pay him no more than £12,000 a week – an offer which his representatives have flatly rejected, with no sign at the moment of a breakthrough in talks.

Other clubs are said to be monitoring the situation, with question marks now seemingly hanging over the player’s long-term future.

West Ham’s veteran defender Pablo Zabaleta has declared that Rice has what it takes to be a club legend and should be tied to a long-term deal as soon as possible.

“He has the right ability and attitude to become one of the greatest players for West Ham,” said Zabaleta.

“I think he is on the last year of his contract, or something like that, so West Ham need to think about his situation, because even though he is young he looks so mature and he is proving week in, week out, that he can perform for the team.”
