Hammers linked with former Arsenal defender Djourou

West Ham are considering making a move for Hamburg’s former Arsenal defender Johan Djourou, according to Bild.

The German newspaper suggests Djourou, 30, could return to London on a Bosman free transfer when his contract expires at the end of the season.

Switzerland international Djourou, who spent 10 years at Arsenal, was linked with a move to Crystal Palace during the January transfer window.

West Ham believe they might be able to bring Jermain Defoe back to the club this summer on a free transfer, The Sun claimed this week.

The 34-year-old Sunderland striker, recently recalled to the England squad after a four-year absence, was tipped to rejoin the Hammers during the January transfer window.

He is among a host of forwards linked with a move to the London Stadium, with manager Slaven Bilic expected to bolster his attacking options in the summer.

The Sun believe West Ham will look to sign him at the end of the season and believe Defoe will be able to leave for free if relegation-threatened Sunderland go down.

A ‘Hammers source’ was quoted as saying: “We remain interested in Jermain after trying to sign him in January.

“He’s 34 but his call up for England tells you everything you need to know. We want to discover where he stands on the contract.

“We believe it’s a free if they go down. Although his wages are high it would be a good deal for us.

“We think he would love to finish his days at the club that groomed him. We will have a good look at him on April 15 when we are up there.”

Meanwhile, the Daily Mirror has reported that Bilic wants to sign Swansea’s former Tottenham midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson.

The Mirror also believe West Ham are unlikely to sign Wayne Rooney despite being linked with the England captain.
