Paper round-up: Alderweireld tipped to sign deal, Bergkamp and Warburton linked with Arsenal job

Tottenham are close to agreeing a contract extension with Toby Alderweireld, according to the Daily Mail.

Both parties are said to be confident that the defender will sign new five-year contract worth around £75,000-per-week.

The new deal will not include the £25m release clause contained in Alderweireld’s current contract, the Mail say.

Meanwhile, former Brentford manager Mark Warburton could take over as Arsenal’s academy director, the Daily Record believe.

The Scottish newspaper reckon Warburton, who recently left Glasgow Rangers, is in the running to replace Andries Jonker, who has quit Arsenal to take charge of Wolfsburg.

Warburton was well regarded in the game as a youth coach before landing a first-team role at Brentford.

The Mail, on the other hand, say Arsenal legend Dennis Bergkamp and former Gunners defender Steve Morrow are in contention for the job.

Morrow is currently head of scouting for Arsenal’s academy, while Bergkamp is working at Ajax.

The Mail say Barcelona youth coach Pep Segura will also be considered.

Speculation continues over the future of Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger, with the Daily Mirror claiming he has rejected a £30m-a-year offer to manage in China.

Chelsea and Arsenal are among clubs showing an interest in Nigerian prospect Henry Onyekuru, the Daily Mail say.

Meanwhile, West Ham have rejected offers for Andy Carroll from Chinese clubs Tianjin Quanjian, Hebei China Fortune and Shandong Luneng, again according to the Mail.
