Paper round-up: Spurs still being linked with Gomes

The Sun have picked up on reports in Spain claiming that Tottenham want Andre Gomes but face competition from Wolves.

Barcelona’s Portugal international has been touted for a move to the Premier League for some time, with West Ham also among the clubs he has been linked with.

Wolves are set to spend heavily following their promotion to the top flight and are now also being linked with him.

Meanwhile, Newcastle are facing competition from Leicester to sign Crystal Palace winger Andros Townsend, according to The Guardian.

Newcastle are said to be willing pay £20m in order to take Townsend back to St James’ Park, where the former Tottenham man enjoyed a spell before returning to London.

The Guardian say Leicester are rival contenders to sign him and are expected to have money to spend, with Riyad Mahrez tipped to leave the East Midlands club.

The Guardian also say Palace are interested in taking Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham on a season-long loan.

Palace are battling with Southampton and Burnley for the signing of Toulouse defender Christopher Jullien, The Sun say.

Paris St-Germain are willing to pay Chelsea £90m for N’Golo Kante, according to the Daily Mirror.

And, amid reports that former Napoli boss Maurizio Sarri is close to replacing Antonio Conte as Chelsea manager, The Independent suggest Sarri could bring players with him from the Italian club.

The Independent believe Sarri has spoken to some Napoli players about the possibility of them moving to the Bridge, including Belgium forward Dries Mertens.

Mertens reportedly has a buy-out clause of £28m in his Napoli contract.

Faouzi Ghoulam (£38m), Raul Albiol (£5m) and Jose Callejon (£20m) are also said to have buy-out clauses and are touted as possible signings too.
