Stoke City manager Mark Hughes is keen to sign Tottenham defender Kevin Wimmer, according to Sky.

Hughes was linked with a move for Wimmer earlier this summer and is again said to be interested in a potential deal.

The defender has been tipped to leave Spurs following the recent signing of Colombian Davinson Sanchez from Ajax.

West Bromwich Albion are interested in Wimmer, who has started just 13 Premier League matches since arriving in north London from German club Cologne two years ago.

However, speaking at a press conference on Friday, West Brom manager Tony Pulis dismissed suggestions a deal for Wimmer was about to go through.

It had been reported that Austrian Wimmer was close to completing a move to The Hawthorns.

Pulis said: “Whoever’s telling you we are close is miles away from fact. We have a lot of irons in the fire with a lot of targets.”

Wimmer has made 31 appearances for Tottenham in all competitions and there has been speculation about his future for some time.

He told Austrian media earlier this summer that he was frustrated by his lack of game time at Spurs but would like to stay in the Premier League were he to leave.
