Paper round-up: Spurs reportedly unwilling to meet Barkley’s demands

Ross Barkley would have to accept less than Everton are offering him in order to join Tottenham, reports say.

There continues to be speculation over the future of the England midfielder, whose contract at Goodison Park is due to expire next summer.

The Daily Mail and the Daily Mirror say Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino is interested in Barkley but that the club are unwilling to pay him the wages he reportedly wants.

It is claimed that Barkley wants more than the £100,000 a week Tottenham’s top earners Hugo Lloris and Harry Kane reportedly earn.

Spurs are said to be unwilling to pay Barkley, 23, above that and reports say Everton are offering him more to sign a new deal and stay with them.

The Sun run a similar story, claiming that Tottenham fear Barkley will price himself out of a move because of his wage demands.

Meanwhile, the expected sale of Nemanja Matic will enable Chelsea boss Antonio Conte to pursue his transfer targets, the Mirror say.

The newspaper declares that those targets are Inter Milan midfielder Antonio Candreva, Juventus left-back Alex Sandro and Southampton centre-back Virgil van Dijk.

All three players have been linked with Chelsea, who look set to sell Matic to Manchester United this week.
