Paper round-up: Liverpool reportedly make approach for Oxlade-Chamberlain

Liverpool have made an approach to Arsenal for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, the Daily Mirror say.

The Gunners are said to have rebuffed the approach but the Mirror suggest they could yet sell Oxlade-Chamberlain if he does not sign a new contract.

The England international’s current contract expires next year and there has been speculation about his long-term future for some time.

The Mirror declare that Liverpool’s apparent approach “represents the first step in trying to pull off a remarkable transfer coup.”

The Mirror also say West Ham are prepared to pay Arsenal £20m for Olivier Giroud – and pay the French striker £130,000 a week.

Meanwhile, West Ham are planning a move for Sampdoria striker Luis Muriel, The Sun say.

The Colombian recently signed a new contract but the deal reportedly has a £24m release clause.

And The Sun claim West Ham are ready to pay that amount for the 26-year-old, who has also been linked with Liverpool and Leicester.

Muriel is among a host of strikers the Hammers have been linked with in recent weeks.

Tottenham are interested in Barcelona’s teenage midfielder Carles Alena, according to the Mail.

The 19-year-old made his first-team debut last season and has yet to agree a new contract with Barca, sparking speculation about his future.

He is said to be considering his options, with Spurs reportedly prepared to offer him a contract should he decide to leave the Nou Camp.

Tottenham have no intention of selling Harry Kane despite reports that Manchester United plan to table a bid, The Independent say.

Bookmakers have cut the odds on England striker Kane moving to Old Trafford following reports United are planning a £100m bid.

The Independent say those reports have been laughed off by Spurs, who would not be prepared to let Kane, 23, leave.

The newspaper also say United would need to offer closer to £200m than £100m to sign Kane and that even then Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy might not be persuaded to do business.

Arsenal and Manchester City are considering a straight swap deal involving Sergio Aguero and Gunners star Alexis Sanchez, the Daily Star claim.

Crystal Palace will make a move for Manchester City striker Kelechi Iheanacho, according to the Daily Mirror.

And Chelsea are reported to be closing in on the signings of Alex Sandro and Tiemoue Bakayoko.

The Mirror is among a number of newspapers to report that Chelsea are close to agreeing a fee with Juventus for left-back Sandro and that Monaco midfielder Bakayoko is set to finalise a £37m move.

Chelsea are said to have offered £61m for Sandro, so signing him would mean a new record fee for a defender, eclipsing the £50m Paris St-Germain paid the Blues for David Luiz three years ago.

The Mirror also say Chelsea boss Antonio Conte will then turn his attention to signing Southampton central defender Virgil van Dijk.
