Paper round-up: Boro linked with Gayle

Middlesbrough are eyeing Newcastle striker Dwight Gayle as an alternative to Britt Assombalonga, The Sun say.

Nottingham Forest forward Assombalonga, who was raised in Swiss Cottage, is reported to a target for Boro and Burnley.

The Sun say Boro have lined up Gayle as a back-option if they are unable to land Assombalonga.

Gayle, from Walthamstow, has been linked with a move amid reports Newcastle boss Rafael Benitez is keen to bring in at least one striker this summer.

And Newcastle want to sign Ruben Loftus-Cheek on loan from Chelsea, the Daily Mail say.

Meanwhile, Alexis Sanchez is demanding £400,000 a week to stay at Arsenal, the Daily Mirror claim.

The Chilean’s contract expires next year and there has been speculation that he will be sold unless he agrees to sign a new deal.

The Mirror say he has been offered £275,000 a week by Arsenal but is looking for significantly more.

Sanchez continues to be linked with Manchester City, but Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has insisted the club will not sell to a Premier League rival.

Manchester United are ready to use Wayne Rooney as a makeweight in a move for Romelu Lukaku, again according to the Mirror.

The Mirror say United boss Jose Mourinho “believes Rooney could be the key to prising the Everton striker away from Chelsea’s clutches.”

Former Chelsea man Lukaku has been tipped to return to Stamford Bridge this summer, but United have also been linked with the Belgian.

The Mirror also say Chelsea’s Nathaniel Chalobah is in talks about a permanent move to Watford.

And Chelsea have renewed their interest in Swansea’s Fernando Llorente, according to The Times.
