Arsenal are among English clubs being linked with Napoli midfielder Jorginho.
The Daily Mirror say Liverpool are lining up the Italy international as a replacement for Emre Can and are confident they will beat Arsenal and Manchester United, who are apparently also interested, to his signing.
Jorginho is said to be rated at £50m and has been linked with a possible move to the Premier League for some time.
Meanwhile, Arsenal are refusing to budge in contract negotiations with Jack Wilshere and have made their final offer, again according to the Mirror.
The Sun has reported that the England international remains keen to stay at Arsenal and will give the club every chance to improve their offer.
But the Mirror believe Arsenal will not do so and that Wilshere fears he may therefore have to leave the club.
The Sun say Wilshere could even go to this summer’s World Cup with his future still up in the air in the hope that the Gunners will eventually make him a better offer.
West Ham and Everton are said to be prepared to pay Wilshere more than his current salary, which is reported to be worth £120,000 a week.
Several newspapers report comments made by Wilshere about being told by manager Arsene Wenger that he would be allowed to leave Arsenal.
Speaking at a press conference ahead of England’s game against the Netherlands, Wilshere said: “It was an honest conversation. We have known each other long enough where we can have that relationship where we are honest with each other.
“It was boiling up for a while because everybody knew I had a year left on my deal and I had been out on loan, got injured, and wasn’t really in his plans.
“He said, ‘I am going to be honest with you and at the moment we are not going to be offering you a contract, so if you can get a contract somewhere else, you can go’.
“Obviously I was not happy with that, but at the same time I was happy he was being honest.”
