Arsenal are favourites to sign Manchester United goalkeeper Sergio Romero, the Daily Star reports.

The story is based on bookmakers Ladbrokes installing the Gunners as favourites pick up Argentina international Romero, who is currently David de Gea’s stand-in at Old Trafford.

Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: “With David de Gea on the scene, Romero is never going to break into Mourinho’s first-team plans – and it now looks likely that Wenger will take advantage of the Argentine’s availability.”

Meanwhile, The Sun have picked up on a story by Italian website Tuttosport claiming that Juventus are considering a bid for Arsenal defender Hector Bellerin.

And a number of newspapers report Arsene Wenger insisting that Arsenal have no intention of letting Olivier Giroud go.

Giroud came on as a substitute and scored to rescue a point in Sunday’s 1-1 draw at Southampton.

There have been reports that Giroud is keen to leave the Emirates Stadium on loan in order to get regular game time and secure his place in France’s World Cup squad.

West Ham and Crystal Palace have been linked with the striker, as have Everton, who were keen to sign him during the summer.

Gunners boss Wenger said: “Why should we lose an important player?

“I consider Olivier Giroud as a regular player. We have to be grateful that he is part of a great team and one who can come on and make a difference with the right attitude and ability.”
