Paper round-up: Arsenal linked with Dembele and Van Dijk

Arsenal are lining up possible bids for Celtic’s Moussa Dembele and Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk, the Daily Express claim.

The Express say Arsenal are ready to target former Fulham forward Dembele if Alexis Sanchez leaves the Emirates Stadium.

The newspaper also say Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is weighing up a £45m bid for Dutch centre-back Van Dijk.

The Sun, on the other hand, say Van Dijk could join Liverpool for £60m and is only interested in a move to Anfield.

The Sun also say Arsenal are ready to offer Sanchez a contract worth £275,000 a week in order to keep him.

Meanwhile, Tottenham are ready to step up their attempts to sign Ross Barkley from Everton, according to The Independent.

The two clubs are said to be far apart in their valuations of the England international, with Everton apparently asking for £50m.

But The Independent also say there is a willingness on both sides to get the deal done and that Everton would rather sell now than let Barkley see out the final year of his contract at Goodison Park.

The Daily Mirror say Tottenham hope to complete the £8m signing of Estudiantes defender Juan Foyth by the end of this week and that Manchester City keeper Joe Hart will have a medical at West Ham in the next 24 hours.

And the Daily Mail reports that Borussia Dortmund chief executive Hans-Joachim Watzke says the German club will only “wait a few more days” on offers for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

It has been claimed that Chelsea want the striker and that a £60m deal is close to being agreed.

But no bid has been tabled for Aubameyang, and Watzke is quoted as saying: “We will wait a few more days, but not for much longer than that.

“Personally, I’d be happy if Pierre were to remain. Obviously there are clubs in the world where Aubameyang could earn more than he does here.”
