Mail say Jenkinson wants big wages to join Palace

Arsenal defender Carl Jenkinson is demanding nearly £70,000 a week to join Crystal Palace, the Mail say.

It comes after  Arsene Wenger suggested that Jenkinson is unlikely to leave Arsenal ahead of Tuesday’s transfer deadline.

Palace recently had an offer for the full-back accepted but have so far not been able to agree personal terms.

Arsenal remain willing to let Jenkinson go, but Gunners boss Wenger, speaking at a press conference on Monday morning, indicated that a move was no closer.

Wenger said: “There is no news at all. We are still open, because we have many players in that position, but at the moment it doesn’t look like something will happen.”

Jenkinson, 23, is a long way down the pecking order at Arsenal and his first-team prospects would be slim were he to stay at the Emirates Stadium.

He has made just one Premier League appearance for them this season and has not featured in any competition since the EFL Cup defeat at home against Southampton in November.

But Wenger insisted he would be happy for Jenkinson to stay if he decides against a move.

The Frenchman said: “He’s integrated and we respect any professional’s decision.

“He is a great player with a great attitude and there is no problem on that front. He must find happiness wherever he goes.”
