Paper round-up: Arsenal monitoring Port Vale defender, Star say

Arsenal are showing an interest in Port Vale defender Nathan Smith, it is claimed.

It comes after scouts from Arsenal and Liverpool watched Vale’s League One game against Charlton at the weekend.

That inevitably prompted more reports that the Addicks’ highly-rated teenage forward Ademola Lookman is being targeted.

England Under-20 striker Lookman has been linked with a number of Premier League clubs in recent months, including the Gunners.

But the Daily Star claim centre-back Smith, 20, is also being monitored.

The newspaper also claim Stoke and Norwich are keen on Smith.

The Express reports that Lucas Perez’s agent Rodrigo Fernandez has responded to speculation the player is not in Arsenal’s plans and could leave the Emirates Stadium.

“He’s not playing because he is injured,” Italian website Calcio Mercato quoted Llovelle as saying.

“He has no intention of leaving, Arsenal and Arsene Wenger are very happy with him. Maybe try asking them! He’s only thinking about Arsenal at the moment.”

Meanwhile, West Ham manager Slaven Bilic is under pressure and the club’s hierarchy are considering alternatives, according to the Telegraph.

And The Sun say Chelsea are among a number of clubs showing an interest in Sporting Lisbon winger Gelson Martins.
