Werner in line for cut-price Spurs deal

Timo Werner could be in line for a cut-price permanent move to Tottenham.

The former Chelsea striker has impressed since returning to London to join Spurs on loan from RB Leipzig.

And according to the Daily Telegraph, Werner has already made his mind up that he wants to make the move permanent.

The newspaper has also reported that an option in the loan deal means Spurs can buy Werner for £14.5m before the European Championship starts on June 14.

Werner struggled in front of goal at Chelsea and eyebrows were raised when Tottenham decided to bring him in.

But the Germany international has impressed and boss Ange Postecoglou regards him as a key player.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference ahead of the recent 4-0 win at Aston Villa, Postecoglou said: “I think he’s been really important.

“You can only imagine if we didn’t bring him in in January, it would have been a much bigger burden on the other players in the group.

“We brought him in to make an impact and I think he has made an impact for us.

“I do think there’s more to come from him for sure. He’s working hard in training. I think his performances are improving.

“It’s also helped guys like Brennan Johnson and Kulusevski and others. The burden would have been pretty big on those guys if we hadn’t brought Timo in.”
