Cech and Welbeck to be assessed ahead of derby

Arsene Wenger is unsure whether Petr Cech and Danny Welbeck will be available for Arsenal in Saturday’s north London derby against rivals Tottenham.

Goalkeeper Cech was taken off with a calf injury during the second half of Saturday’s 5-1 win against Everton.

The former Chelsea man has not trained since and Gunners boss Wenger plans to decide on Friday whether Cech looks fit enough to be included in the squad for the game at Wembley.

Wenger is also hoping that striker Welbeck will be able to return to the squad.

“Maybe Danny Welbeck will be back,” Wenger said at a press conference on Thursday morning.

“We had a few problems with Petr Cech and he is not sure at the moment. He has not practised, so I don’t know if he will be available.”

And Wenger insisted he will have no qualms about selecting back-up keeper David Ospina for this weekend’s game if Cech is not deemed fit enough,

“I will not take any risks if he is not 100% fit for sure, because I have full confidence in David Ospina,” Wenger said.

“I have no problem with that. David Ospina or Petr Cech – I will make my decision tomorrow.”
