Tottenham defender Jan Vertonghen faces a significant spell on the sidelines with his hamstring injury.

Speaking at a press conference on Friday morning, manager Mauricio Pochettino confirmed that the Belgium international’s problem appears to be serious.

“We’ll see. It was not a good injury,” Pochettino said.

“We’re so disappointed with that. We’ll see if it’s six weeks or less.”

Vertonghen suffered the injury during the win against Huddersfield and missed out on the Belgium squad announced on Friday.

Spurs have have confirmed that Dele Alli, Christian Eriksen, Serge Aurier and Mousa Dembele will also remain sidelined for Saturday’s game against Cardiff City.

Alli also has a hamstring problem, while Aurier and Dembele have thigh injuries and an abdominal injury means Erkisen is still unavailable.

On a more positive note for Spurs, goalkeeper Michel Vorm is back in training following a knee injury.
