Tottenham beat Chelsea 3-1 in a one-sided derby at Wembley. Here’s how we rated the players as Spurs emphatically ended Maurizio Sarri’s unbeaten record as Blues boss.
Tottenham
Hugo Lloris: Relatively quiet night for the France World Cup winner, who was alert when needed, pushing away an effort from Chelsea dangerman Eden Hazard late in the first half. 6/10
Serge Aurier: Full-back covered ground well and got forward when needed on the overlap. Made a late crunching challenge on Hazard. 6
Juan Foyth: Fortunate not to give away a needless penalty when bundling over Hazard and shot wide just before half-time, but otherwise a sound display. 6
Toby Alderweireld: Unlucky not to score in the first half and helped nullify what little attacking threat Chelsea mustered. 6
Ben Davies: Offered an outlet down the flank and tracked back when needed. 6
Eric Dier: England midfielder headed an early chance over and was not afraid to put his foot in to help break up Chelsea’s rhythmn. 6
Moussa Sissoko: Composed display and helped link up in the transition to release Spurs front line. 6
Christian Eriksen: The Dane’s fine delivery from a free-kick set up the opening goal and remained a threat with perfectly-weighted passes to help stretch the Chelsea back line. 7
Dele Alli: Got in front of his marker to head Spurs into an early lead, always a threat in and around the Chelsea penalty area. Late effort grazed the crossbar. 7
Son Heung-min: South Korea frontman had enough chances to net a hat-trick, but made do with a brilliant solo effort to slot in Spurs’ third goal early in the second half. 8
Harry Kane: Fine low strike from distance helped Spurs take control at Wembley. Had a good tussle with the Chelsea defence, and got a ripped shirt for his troubles, before firing a late chance over. 7
Substitutes:
Erik Lamela (for Son, 78): Was keen to get on the ball and settled quickly as Spurs finished comfortable winners. 6
Harry Winks (for Alli, 87): Little time to make an impact. 6
Chelsea
Kepa Arrizabalaga: Little chance with any of the goals, was unsighted as Kane drilled in a 25-yard effort. Also saved well from Alderweireld, Son and Kane on a busy evening. 6
Cesar Azpilicueta: Went about his duties with usual robustness, but was often outnumbered as Spurs swept forwards. Set up late goal with a fine cross. 6
Antonio Rudiger: Given a tough time trying to keep Kane quiet, and was on a tightrope after collecting an early booking. Fortunate not to be sent off for later tripping Kane. 5
David Luiz: Brazilian conceded the free-kick which produced the opening goal and then seemed to turn his back as Kane’s 25-yard strike flew goalwards. Brushed off too easily by Son for his goal. 4
Marcos Alonso: Stepped in to try to help shore up the Chelsea back line, which was being stretched by Spurs’ potent attacking threat. Shot over late on. 6
N’Golo Kante: Quiet evening for the industrious Blues midfielder, who lacked his usual solidity in front of the Chelsea rearguard which was overrun in the first half. 6
Jorginho: Italian midfielder failed to make an impact on the Spurs supply line and looked out of position when dropping back. Booked during the closing stages. 6
Mateo Kovacic: Sent a second-half effort over the bar, but never really got a foothold in the match. 6
Willian: Brazilian showed plenty of clever footwork, but failed to pick out a telling pass to unlock the Spurs defence. 6
Alvaro Morata: Spaniard looked lively before Spurs’ double strike, but ran offside too often as Chelsea chased the game. 5
Eden Hazard: Once more was Chelsea’s main threat, and should have been awarded a penalty when bundled over by Foyth. Saw a late first half chance saved and frustrations resulted in a yellow card. Needed treatment after a heavy late challenge from Aurier. 6
Substitutes:
Pedro (for Morata, 58) – Never really got himself into the game, which was already lost when he was sent on, then fired just over when given a sight of goal in the closing stages. 5
Ross Barkley (for Kovacic, 58) – Worked hard as Chelsea tried to finish strongly and offered some fresh impetus going forward. 6
Olivier Giroud (for Willian, 76) – French centre-forward gave some new life to the lacklustre Chelsea attack and headed in a late consolation. 7
