Tottenham are considering a move for Manchester City goalkeeper James Trafford as a replacement for Guglielmo Vicario, according to The Sun.
Spurs are reportedly preparing for a summer shake-up between the sticks, with Vicario attracting significant interest from Italian giants Inter Milan.
With Vicario potentially heading back to his homeland, The Sun suggests that Spurs have identified Trafford as the ideal candidate to take over in North London. The 23-year-old joined City from Burnley last summer but has found his opportunities at the Etihad limited following the subsequent arrival of Gianluigi Donnarumma.
Trafford, who rose to prominence during England’s Under-21 European Championship success, has featured primarily in cup competitions this term and is believed to be frustrated by his lack of Premier League action. His ball-playing ability is seen as a perfect fit for the tactical system favoured by Tottenham boss Roberto De Zerbi.
However, Spurs are likely to face stiff competition for the 6ft 6in shot-stopper. Newcastle are understood to be the frontrunners for his signature, with Magpies boss Eddie Howe keen to bolster his own goalkeeping department. Aston Villa have also been credited with an interest in the Cumbrian-born star.
Regardless of who comes in, Spurs are widely expected to sign a keeper this summer and it’s clearly an area that needs to improve for next season.
