Tottenham players reportedly unhappy with Mourinho

There is speculation about Jose Mourinho’s future after another poor Tottenham display.

The 2-2 draw with struggling Newcastle was another blow to Spurs’ chances of a top-four finish.

That led to boss Mourinho pointing the finger at his players, making it clear they are to blame for recent results.

The Daily Telegraph reports that Tottenham players are unhappy with that and are losing patience with Mourinho.

Meanwhile, the Daily Mail reports that Spurs players are baffled and angry at Mourinho claiming that defender Toby Alderweireld did not train before the Newcastle game despite the club releasing images showing him taking part.

Asked about Alderweireld and Serge Aurier’s absence, Mourinho said at his post-match press conference: “They were fit, but they reported for training only yesterday.

“They went for their national teams and they didn’t make the Covid tests on time to be in the training session on Thursday, not even on Friday. They came only yesterday.”

The Mail also suggest Tottenham would not have to pay Mourinho £30m in compensation were they to sack him this summer.

He has two years left on a contract said to be worth £15m a year, which led to recent reports it would cost Spurs £30m were the club to decide to part with him.

But the Mail say performance clauses linked to European qualification mean the sum involved would be smaller.
