Pochettino not expecting January signings

Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino says he does not expect to make signings during the transfer window.

Spurs have been linked with a host of players, including Crystal Palace’s Wilfried Zaha, Everton’s England midfielder Ross Barkley, and Real Madrid’s Isco.

But Pochettino insists he has no plans to add to his squad.

Speaking at a press conference ahead of his side’s match against Watford, Pochettino said: “I don’t expect to do some business, because I am happy with the squad that I have.

“I think it’s not the right moment. Only if it’s a person who will definitely benefit us – otherwise, no.”

Asked about reports that Spurs are keen to sign Barkley, the Argentinian said: “I don’t know where that rumour has come from.”

Meanwhile, Crystal Palace boss Sam Allardyce has dismissed reports that Zaha could be sold.

Tottenham were reported to be keen to sign him, with The Sun claiming that Allardyce was considering selling for £30m because he was angry at the prospect of being without Zaha for up to a month while the player is with Ivory Coast at the African Cup of Nations.

However, speaking ahead of Palace’s derby against Arsenal, Allardyce said he had been told by Steve Parish that Zaha would not be sold.

“There’s no potential for losing him permanently, according to the chairman this morning,” Allardyce said.
