Tottenham supporters on Twitter are hopeful that Josh Onomah’s move to Aston Villa might be making space for the arrival of England midfielder Ross Barkley.
Onomah, who has made 32 senior appearances for Spurs, joined Championship club Villa on a season-long loan on Friday.
Tottenham fans were generally surprised that Onomah had been allowed to leave but speculated whether it may be to make room for Barkley, who is likely to leave Everton in this transfer window.
The eternal optimist in me says Onomah on loan means a new arrival in midfield….Barkley?

IMO we wouldn’t have let Onomah go if we didn’t have a replacement lined up, and Barkley would bolster the bench, so it’s a win-win for us

Sending Josh Onomah out on loan would suggest an incoming midfielder. Barkley?

If we are about to loan Onamah to Villa, either we are about to sign someone (Barkley) or we’re further weakening ourselves #THFC

If Spurs are happy to let Onomah go on loan then a transfer must be in the works. We’re now losing players from our already lacking bench.

Onomah loan surely means a midfielder incoming, right?

Could you imagine loaning Onomah and not buying a midfielder this window?
I can’t.
So yay we’re going to sign someone!!!?

Villa fans were broadly optimistic about the arrival of Onomah, which adds to their strength in midfield.
Like the signing of onomah. Hopefully get promoted. Sign on loan next season for prem and then sign him as he enjoys regular football. #avfc

Brilliant signing in Josh onomah, what we need in my opinion. #AVFC

Josh onomah is a good signing, him feeding the balls through to Hogan could be lethal in this league #AVFC
