Marcus Edwards scored for the home side as Tottenham’s Under-23s lost 4-1 to Leicester at White Hart Lane.
It was the team’s first match since the sudden death of their coach Ugo Ehiogu, who passed away last month at the age of 44.
A crowd of more than 2,000 at the Lane observed a minute’s applause in honour of the former England defender before kick-off. Proceeds from the match are to be donated to a charity being set up by his family in his memory.
It was a difficult night for the young Spurs players, who were trailing to goals from Harvey Barnes and Josh Gordon when goalkeeper Tom Glover was sent off for handling the ball outside his area.
From the resulting free-kick, Barnes scored his second goal, curling the ball past substitute goalkeeper Alfie Whiteman.
Gordon made it four before Edwards pulled a goal back with a late penalty.
